Orla Kiely's work to be celebrated in new exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum

Her leafy designs are splashed over fashion boutiques, homeware stores and kitchens across the country, and now Orla Kiely is getting her own exhibition.

The Fashion and Textile Museum will host the first ever exhibition of the designers work, products and influences, opening on May 25.

Since her debut at London Fashion Week in 1994, the designer has achieved fame for her geometrically pleasing motifs of vines and flowers, influenced by mid-century designers such as Lucienne Day and Mary Quant.

The exhibition will draw on a twenty year backcatalogue of work from the designer, as well as examining sketches, mood boards and making techniques used by Kiely. Pieces on display will range from her first collection of hats to the iconic Orla Kiely bag, to recent film collaborations with Mercedes Hellwein and Gia Coppola.

It will also look into themes of colour, geometry and the playful use of size in her work, with installations featuring larger-than-life printed dresses next to pint-size dolls. The show will also look at Orla’s childhood in Ireland, and the way that the rolling Irish landscape came to influence her work in later life.

Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern will run at the Fashion & Textile Museum from May 25 to September 23 2018. For more information, visit ftmlondon.org
