Her photographs of some of the most famous fashion models of all time have graced the pages of glossy magazines around the world, and now Ellen von Unwerth is getting her own London exhibition.

The globally acclaimed photographer will be the focus of Ladyland, a show opening at Opera Gallery in May, which will explore von Unwerth’s ability to blend sensuality and power in her images of women.

Beginning her career in the fashion world as a model working with fashion photographers such as Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton, von Unwerth chose to move behind the camera and has since been championed for her use of the female gaze in a male dominated industry.

Von Unwerth’s images of the most famous supermodel of the nineties are known for channeling eroticism through a feminine perspective.

The exhibition at Opera gallery will feature images of models Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer – who Ellen von Unwerth shot as an unknown for a 1989 GUESS campaign – with images from publications including Vogue, Interview and Q Magazine.

It runs from May 4-18; operagallery.com/london
