A$AP Rocky was billed to support the Red Hot Chili Peppers at their concert at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday. But according to attendees, the rapper showed up so late that the headlining band ended up playing first.

The concert opened with American singer-songwriter Thundercat, and then the Red Hot Chili Peppers stepped up to fill Rocky’s slot. The rapper did finally come on stage, but at this point, there was reportedly only time for a twenty-minute set.

Signs in the stadium said, “due to unforeseen circumstances, A$AP Rocky will now play immediately after the Red Hot Chili Peppers”.

Then, because many attendees were there primarily to see the headling act the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it was reported that large crowds started to leave the concert during the rapper’s performance.

Suprised fans shared their thoughts on Twitter about A$AP, who came on stage wearing a large fluorescent orange coat. “No wonder ASAP Rocky was late, he’s been tarmacking the A1,” said one amused attendee.

“I was so surprised that A$AP Rocky turned up last night but I would’ve never guessed that he’d come on after Chilli Peppers, play 2 songs, then leave,” said another.

“I just want to know who made A$AP Rocky an opener for the Red Hot Chili Peppers,” said another.

“Hilarious that people think the Red Hot Chili Peppers cut their set short in Manchester last night for A$AP Rocky. They played 18 songs, same as most shows on the current tour, more songs than certain shows. They just went onstage early it’s not that complicated to understand,” said a fourth.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on a major UK, Europe and US tour and are set to play two dates in London this weekend. On Saturday they will be supported by Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals and Thundercat, while on Sunday Thundercat will return to support alongside A$AP Rocky.

The American rock band are then set to go to Ireland and Scotland before heading to mainland Europe and beyond. They will close their tour in Austin, Texas on October 16.

The tour is in support of their new album Unlimited Love which was released in April. Upon release, the album became the best-selling rock album of 2022 so far.

The Standard gave the album four stars, saying “Those who have grown up with this band will have few reservations about welcoming its return in its strongest line-up.”
