London's best microfestivals

Boutique, bijoux, intimate and a little bit secret, these mini-festivals are a great alternative to the horrors of large mega-fests
Electronic music: UV festival
19 July 2013

If you don't like travelling to Somerset for your summer festival or hanging out with 170,000 strangers, these super-close-to-London teeny-weeny festivals are for you.

Truck

The best-known little ’un has got a bit smaller again this year. Truck has the trappings of a much larger festie without the sponsorship. The Horrors and Spiritualized headline. Just over an hour away, in Oxfordshire.

This weekend. Capacity 3,000. Tickets £74, truckfestival.com

Farr Festival

Dubstep, electro, techno and house in a forest about 30 minutes up the A1. Line-up includes Eats Everything and Adam Shelton.

July 19-21. Capacity 2,000. Tickets £75, farrfestival.co.uk

UV festival

Electronic music festival in its sophomore year, set up by a new independent label. Easy to get to as it’s close to Gatwick airport. Food by Yum Buns.

August 10. Capacity 450. Tickets £25, hijackerrecords.com/uv-festival-tickets

Playgroup Festival

One for the fancy-dress lovers. Very intentionally tiny. They cut the capacity the moment it started to expand. In a secret location north of Brighton.

August 16-18. Capacity 500. Tickets £70, playgroupfestival.com

In the Woods

A place to see emerging singer-songwriters. One hour away by train in (not surprisingly) some woods near Staplehurst in Kent.

August 30-31. Capacity 1,000. Tickets £75 (re-sale only), inthewoodsfestival.co.uk
