Back in the Nineties, the soundtrack to the original Trainspotting film was as much of a must-have as that orange poster in your student bedroom. Can the sequel, out today, match up? It includes Wolf Alice’s menacing Silk as well as brand new recordings from the likes of Young Fathers and Underworld.

One thing most people can agree on about the Trump administration is that the quality of music isn’t going to suffer. It’s worth supporting a new project called Our First 100 Days, which promises a new or rare song every day from impressive acts including Angel Olsen and Avey Tare, with proceeds going to various organisations involved with climate change, women’s and LGQTQ rights and so on.

After the introspective Tales of Us album in 2013, Goldfrapp are back in their slinky electrpop guise with a new single, Anymore, streaming now. It precedes a seventh album, Silver Eye, at the end of March.

Hot Chip fans have plenty to keep them busy in the coming months, with solo albums on the way from both singer Alexis Taylor and keyboardist Joe Goddard. Goddard has a soulful new song, Music is the Answer, on YouTube now before his album lands in April.

The new Ben Affleck film, Live by Night, is set in the Prohibition Era and features an appropriately old fashioned theme tune. Moonshine features Northern Irish folk-soul man Foy Vance duetting with country queen Kacey Musgraves and is available online now.
