El Dorado festival: Everything you need to know

All aboard: The Treasure Island stage at El Dorado
Annabel Simpson8 July 2019

If you fancy a fun and frivolous weekend in the sunshine then head to El Dorado.

It harks back to the early years of Secret Garden Party with quirky production, fancy dress and a high-energy, uplifting atmosphere. It's a festival that doesn't take itself too seriously.

In the stunning setting of Eastnor Park in Herefordshire, there are a number of stages to explore but if your feet are still aching from Glastonbury then fear not, as El Dorado is perfectly compact and easily navigated.

Check out Treasure Island, where DJs will play from a pirate ship to the crowd dancing on a floating stage on the lake. If you're chasing a slightly heavier beat then head to The Nest, the multi-level amphitheatre in the woods. Mount Boom, meanwhile, is the stage inspired by the Maya Mountains of Central America — we’ll be there to watch DJ, MC and Radio 1 regular Josh Parkinson on the Friday Night.

Other areas to explore include the Sasscienda, a raucous boudoir hosting drag acts and burlesque with an all-female DJ line up on the Friday. It will showcase the best emerging talent including Scarlett Lapidus and fashionista duo The Collyer Twins. El Paradisco is a new stage for this year with LED screens, special effects and lasers. It's a hub for disco, house and techno and will host big names including Mall Grab, Artwork and Horse Meat Disco.

When it's time to refuel, there's a medley of delicious street food. Head to Rainbo for a gyoza fix, Made of Dough for woodfired pizza and Anna Maes for its famous mac ‘n’ cheese. If you fancy a proper sit down, the Balham and Islington brunch spot Brother Marcus will be serving cocktails, brunch, lunch and dinner with a sumptuous menu including slow roast crispy pork belly and buttermilk fried chicken.

Camp in style in a lotus belle tent with The Woodville Project in the Boutique Camping area. They have everything you need including a pampering area with hairdryers, straighteners, luxury loos and hot showers.
