Curtis Stigers - One More for the Road review: 'hip knowingness and old-school panache'

New album: Curtis Stigers has released One More for the Road
Jane Cornwell6 January 2017

A suave start to the new year from the evergreen Stigers, whose luxurious voice glides through these 10 Sinatra covers with a combo of hip knowingness and old-school panache.

Recorded live with the Danish Radio Big Band, who give the arrangements the requisite spirit and swing, it’s a salute to the iconic 1966 album Sinatra at the Sands that Ol’ Blue Eyes made in Vegas with the Count Basie Orchestra, but still feels very much Stigers’ own.

The former rock star turned jazz idol has the confidence and emotional range to give the likes of Come Fly With Me the life it deserves, and Summer Wind has never sounded so 21st-century sexy.
