Maybe It’s Because I’m A Londoner: Punks and protesters star in exhibition celebrating diversity

1/18

Photographs of Barbara Windsor, the first raid of the Blitz and the 1985 outrage demonstrations are among the photographs presently on display at an exhibition celebrating London diversity.

Among the highlights of Galerie Prints' Maybe It’s Because I’m A Londoner are shots of a 1940 interracial couple eating ice cream, police holding back excited youth as the Beatles receive their MBEs and London’s first two-wheeled motor car. All are on sale, alongside 62 others.

Galerie Prints' founder, Stuart Möller, said the exhibition is “incredibly” close to his heart. Mr Möller was born to an East German father, Anglo-Indian mother and grew up in London.

“London is more than just a place, it's a living breathing symbol of who we are as a nation — opinion, passion, courage, humour and inclusion are just some of the qualities which are documented in these images,” he told the Standard.

Prints start from £250, with the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II captured in 1953 said to be the most expensive piece, selling at £1,500.

Maybe It’s Because I’m A Londoner exhibition runs until June 16, Galerie Prints, SW19 8AQ, galerieprints.com
