Xbox Series X: All the launch titles confirmed coming to Microsoft's new console

With the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 both releasing this year, 2020 is going to end with a huge bang for the gaming community.

The release date for both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 has finally been revealed; with the former arriving on November 10 while the latter comes to the UK on November 19.

These consoles are promising to really push the boundary of what video games can achieve, not just in graphical fidelity, but technological advancements too, like eliminating loading screens.

One big pull the Xbox Series X already has over the PS5 is that it will be completely backwards compatible with Xbox One games, as well as some Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles, which means the console will span three generations of Xbox games.

Below we're listing all of the new and confirmed games officially launching with the Xbox Series X and the Series S. we will continue to update this list as more games are revealed.

Gears Tactics

Gears Tactics is already available on PC

The new RTS Gears Tactics, which looks and plays a lot like XCOM, will be a launch title for the Xbox Series X and S

Gears Tactics is currently available on Xbox Game Pass for PC, but will launch on November 10 when the new console releases.

Gears 5, which is currently an Xbox One title, will be coming to Xbox Series X with enhanced graphics and textures.

This upscaled version of the game will increase particles and also run in 60 frames per second during cutscenes.

Release date: November 10.

Fortnite

Fortnite, of course, will be coming to next-generation consoles.

It is unclear at the moment just how Fortnite will play on the Xbox Series X, but releasing it on more powerful hardware can only be beneficial for the game.

The battle-royale title, created by Epic Games, sees 100 players battle it out to be the last one standing.

It will also come to the PS5 and Fortnite will have cross-play between all platforms and consoles, as well a migrating the game on next-generation consoles to the new Unreal Engine 5.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft announced that Valhalla will be an Xbox and PS5 launch title.

In this iteration of Assassin's Creed, you'll be playing as either a male or female character called Eivor. Your task? Do what all good Vikings do and pillage England and dealing with pesky Saxons.

You'll be able to navigate rivers via longboats, carry out raids on unsuspecting villages and build up some form of political clout to spread your influence.

we've also seen there's some form of magic involved during a boss fight. It is unknown if there are more supernatural enemies throughout the game at the moment.

The game will have heavy RPG mechanics, which allows you to shape and mould Eivor to any playstyle you want. Dual wield shields? Sure. Just a trusty axe? Absolutely.

Watch Dogs: Legion

In Watch Dogs: Legion, a near-future version of London is looking down the barrel of a corrupt surveillance state after the government collapses.

If you're familiar with Watch Dogs, you'll know the hacker group DedSec doesn't take too kindly to that way of life. To this end, all that's left in its wake is mercenaries and cybercriminals all vying for power.

Legion is different in that the biggest pull of this game is, without doubt, the NPC (non-playable character) recruitment system.

This basically allows you to recruit anyone you come across while exploring London and then play as them to wreak havoc against corruption.

We also know that the game will feature a collaboration with UK grime artist Stormzy, who will have his own quest and debut a song in-game.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Microsoft's looter shooter game Destiny will be arriving on the Xbox Series X in the form of the latest expansion for the game: Beyond Light.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light revolves around the arrival of the mysterious Darkness and a fleet of Pyramid ships heading towards Earth.

This expansion will add new weapons and allow you to travel to Europa, the frozen moon of Jupiter.

There will be new abilities in the form of this Darkness as well, letting you grow your character even more than before.

DIRT 5

DIRT 5 is the next level in Codemasters' off-road racing series.

Codemasters

You'll be able to experience whole new trail on routes across the world, seeing you traverse gravel, ice, snow and sand, with a roster of cars ranging from rally icons to trucks.

Dirt 5 is actually going to be released on PC through Steam on November 6, but will then be a launch title for the Xbox Series X.

If racing games are your cup of tea, DIRT 5 is going to be a strong brew for you.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon has been out in Japan since January this year but it will finally come to the west when it launches with the Xbox Series X.

Like a Dragon will also release on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and eventually the PS5.

The game's description reads: "Take up your legendary bat and get ready to crack some underworld skulls in dynamic RPG combat set against the backdrop of modern-day Japan in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Published by SEGA, the game takes a few notes from some other games published by them, notably Atlus' Persona series and a Job system you'd expect to see in a Final Fantasy game.

From the trailer, we see that the game has completely changed how its combat works, going for Persona-style turn-based combat.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris, of course, needs no introduction.

This is the classic Tetris experience, only completely enhanced for the Xbox Series X.

Play with friends online or locally or in co-op mode in this wonderful-looking reinvention of the popular puzzle game.

The Falconeer

Falconeer will also be on Xbox Series X

This neat little indie game is one of the few launching with the Xbox Series X.

The Falconeer is an open-world air combat game, featuring frenetic aerial dogfights and deep exploration of the mysterious open-world of The Great Ursee.

It will be released on PC on November 10 as well through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
