Sony has announced the games coming to PlayStation Plus in May. They run the gamut, from a football title to a cute Zelda-like adventure.

May’s PlayStation Plus monthly games include FC 24, Tunic, Ghostrunner 2 and the Destiny 2: Lightfall expansion. They are playable on PS4 and PlayStation 5 bar Ghostrunner 2, which requires the newer console.

These titles are available to all tiers of PlayStation Plus subscribers but, as ever, you will need to claim them in May. They aren’t part of the PlayStation Plus ongoing Catalogue, but once claimed you’ll be able to play them as long as your Plus subscription is active.

This is also your last chance to claim April’s games. The switchover happens on May 7.

Those titles include Minecraft Legends, Immortals of Aveum, and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is absolutely worth a shot if you like your first-person shooters, even if it did pick up middling reviews at release.

Let’s take a closer look at those games set to unlock on May 7.

PlayStation Plus Monthly games for May

Tunic is the highest-rated of this month’s PlayStation Plus titles, racking up an 85% score on Metacritic. It’s a roleplaying action adventure that takes us back to the early days of the Zelda series.

You play as a cute fox, navigating through a mysterious isometric world. Don’t enter expecting any sort of “baby” game, though. It’s a combat-heavy experience where you have to work out how items are used, as you aren’t spoon-fed tutorials on Tunic’s mechanics.

FC 24 barely needs an introduction. It’s the go-to football game for consoles. The only issue is if you have enough interest to get excited about this one, you’re probably already playing it.

For the non-football fan, FC 24 is the follow-up to FIFA 23. They are both games by EA, but the publisher lost the license to use the FIFA name in a dispute over money and licensing restrictions. It’s no major loss, though, as FC 24 still features real player names, teams and stadiums.

Ghostrunner 2 is this month’s big single-player action game, and one you might have had to pay big bucks for recently, given it only came out in October 2023. It’s a balletic, fast-paced title where you dash around a futuristic city, parkour-style.

You need to slash and blast enemies while dodging their attacks. While you can take out a whole bunch of baddies in a moment, your character is vulnerable too. This one landed an 80 on Metacritic.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is an expansion to a multiplayer game that is now free-to-play. It adds a campaign and a new character class. It’s also not the best of Destiny 2’s expansions. If you were subscribed to PlayStation Plus back in March, you may have unlocked Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. It’s a stronger campaign than Lightfall.

However, if you think you might ever get into Destiny 2, you should of course unlock Lightfall this month regardless.
