Apex Legends is bringing in crossplay, a long-requested feature to the battle royale game when it launches its next event: The Aftermarket Collection.

Revealed in a trailer for the new collection event, the crossplay function will be in 'beta' and it won't automatically match console players with PC, but you have the option to do so if you wish.

Crossplay was promised in June and this beta test will finally arrive on October 6 when the new collection event goes live. This means that players on PS4, Xbox and PC will now all be able to play together.

Respawn announced it in a new trailer, also showing off a new limited-time mode (LTM) called Flashpoint and exclusive cosmetics to unlock during the event.

Like previous collection events, new cosmetics and emotes will be available for purchase for a limited time and they never fail to impress.

Also shown in the trailer is what appears to be a new Heirloom melee item for Caustic, in the shape of a hammer.

Crossplay

to participate in crossplay with other systems, all you need to do is create a party and add your friends who are playing on PC, Xbox, or PS4.

For example, if you're playing on PS4, create a squad by sending out invites to your friends on Xbox and PC by using the friend list function.

Apex has its own in-game voice chat system and this will work while you're playing with other platforms.

Cross-platform progression, however, will not be a feature in this beta. That means if you primarily play on PS4, you won't be able to log on to the PC or Xbox versions of the game with your main account.

Put simply, if you play on PS4, then move to PC, you will be at account level 1 and have only the base Legends unlocked, with none of your cosmetics or achievements from the PS4 version.

Cross-platform progressions is something Respawn said could be coming when the Steam version of the game launches later this year.

For those worried about being completely outplayed by people using mouse and keyboard over a controller on PC, if you're on console you won't be matched with PC players unless you have one in your party, or you can just disable it entirely.

New LTM Flashpoint

The new Flashpoint LTM will go live on October 6 and it is a brand new one which hasn't been in the game before.

In this new mode, there will be no healing items at all, which means no medkits, shield cells or syringes found on the floor. Instead, players will only be able to regenerate lost health and shields by standing inside designated zones called Flash Points that will be found throughout the Kings Canyon map.

Also during this mode, the ring, which damages you if you are outside it, will always be closing very slowly. However, the ring will always close around a Flashpoint, which is sure to lead to some frantic firefights.

Obviously, playing as either Octane, Wattson or Lifeline will no-doubt give you a boost since all of these characters can recover HP and shields through their own special abilities.

New cosmetics

As ever, these new collection events always come with themed cosmetics which you can unlock.

There will be 24 in total, which you can either purchase directly or you can win them through chance by getting Event Apex Packs.

The Aftermarket Collection will be running from October 6 until 20, which will then hopefully make way for a new Halloween event.
