Summer is right around the corner and there's a rare new item for you to find

There are so many items to be found in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but some can be much rarer than others.

As summer is knocking on the door in the northern hemisphere, there will be new seasonal DIY recipes coming to the game, and some of them will require summer shells to craft them.

These shells can be found along the beaches of your island and you'll notice them by their distinct shade of blue they are compared to the paler colour of normal shells.

The shells should become available in the game from June 1 until August 31, but we've definitely found one of them last week when doing the island rounds and immediately sold it (tragically).

Those of you in the southern hemisphere will have been seeing them on your island through to the end of March, but you'll have to wait until January next year to grab some more.

You can gather these special shells as you normally gather things: just walk up to it and press 'Y' to pick it up.

If you can't find any, just keep walking up and down the beach until one spawns in, but it might take some time considering how rare they are.

As mentioned above, summer shells will be part of the materials needed to craft season summer DIY items in New Horizons.

You'll get these seasonal recipes as you normally would; by shooting down balloons, being taught by other villagers or find them in bottles that have washed up on the beach.

The item is limited from June until August, and while that is plenty of time, you completionists will want to gather as many as possible along with the DIY recipes.

This sort of massive collecting is par for the course for Animal Crossing players, so get out there and make the most of summer.
