This new Animal Crossing: New Horizons trick can provide you with the ultimate photo op.

If you've played the game, you know how firmly-planted on the ground your adorable, balloon-headed character is because they can't jump on command.

You can, however, hop across small gaps over rivers, or when interacting with certain items your character will sometime do a little leap to get on them.

Because of this, some smart players have found a way to recreate this effect, giving your character the effect of floating without ever jumping.

The 'floating' trend started back in August and it was challenging people to come up with the most inventive and creative way to give their character the appearance of floating in a screenshot.

By using in-game mechanics and the game's camera system, you can make your own convincing floating scene, if you're willing to do some photo editing afterwards.

The way to do this yourself is simple, you just need to have a bench, chair or beach towel of any kind available on your island. If you don't have one, you can craft them easily enough with some wood from trees.

Once you've got one, the main part of the challenge will test your reflexes the most – you have to snap a picture of your character while you are in the process of sitting or laying down on one of these items.

When you sit down, or even lie down, there is a short animation that will play out where your character will be floating in the air for a brief second, this is the moment you want to get a picture.

Once you've got it, you'll then want to create the scene using a picture editor and try to remove the object your character is about to sit down on.

Here are some examples a user shared on Instagram, showing off an outer-space scene. It appears that this person either did no editing at all or only slightly added in some elements.

The post reads: "Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space. Here comes Pro tip #3 for #acFloatChallenge: Use custom beach towel as a “bed” for more floating poses".

"Consider wearing different types of clothes (space suit, bath towel, kimono, dress, etc.) for various outcomes".

It's important to note that this is something of a big production as it will involve some picture editing once you've grabbed a shot of your characters animation, but nonetheless, the end result is incredibly fun to look at.

Editing out the chair, bench or towel, or somehow making it blend into the environment will give you the best results here.

With Halloween just around the corner and islands becoming spookier by the second, there's plenty of new opportunities to flex your creative muscles.

We're now in October in Animal Crossing (and, real-life, unfortunately) which means there are new bugs, fish, sea creatures and special Halloween recipes to get your hands on.
