The start of a new month is the best time for any Animal Crossing player, because it means there are new fish and sea creatures to catch.

It's not just fishing, either; since the game added the ability to dive, you can also venture out to sea and sift through the water for a prized critter.

After a somewhat underwhelming August lineup of fish to catch, September offers a far greater selection this month.

We'll cover all the new bugs that will be dotted around your island in another article, so keep an eye out.

All the fish you can catch in September:

Rivers and ponds

  • Cherry salmon: available from 4pm to 9am. You'll find these in clifftop ponds or rivers, so if you don't have a body of water on elevated ground, just make one! Look for a medium-sized shadow.
  • Char: available from 4pm to 9am. Look for medium-sized shadows in clifftop ponds and rivers.
  • Golden trout: available from 4pm to 9am. Another medium shadow to look out for in clifftop rivers.
  • Salmon: available all day. Look for a large shadow at your island's river mouth.
  • King salmon: available all day. Look for a large shadow around the river mouth, this should be the one!
  • Mitten crab: available from 4pm to 9am. Look for a small shadow in your rivers.
  • Pike: available all day. Look for a very large shadow in your rivers.
  • Sturgeon: available all day. Look for a huge shadow, yet another appearing in the river mouth

Ocean

  • No new monsters to fish up from the sea this month, but you can definitely dive for new critters...

Diving

  • Chambered nautilus: available from 4pm to 9am. Dive for a large, slow-moving shadow.
  • Turban shell: available all day. Keep an eye out for a small shadow moving slowly.
  • Oyster: available all day. These small shadows will make short lunges as they move away, dive if you spot them.
  • Umbrella octopus: available all day. Another small shadow, but this one has quicker lunges as it moves away from you.
  • Sweet shrimp: available from 4pm to 9am. Look for a small shadow moving slowly once it notices you.

Some of the fish above, like the salmon and king salmon, will only be here for September, so make sure you get both of them delivered to Blathers.

In terms of fishing and diving, that's everything new coming to your island this month.

Make sure you catch everything to fill out those Critterpedias and grow your impressive museum collection.
