Animal Crossing Fall season changes: How to get pine cones, acorns and more this autumn

It's time to shake things up

Pine cones? Acorns? New DIY recipes? Autumn has finally fallen upon the world of Animal Crossing.

Coinciding with the arrival of September, northern hemisphere players are being treated to a whole host of seasonal changes.

If you wander around your island, you will start noticing acorns and pine cones dotted around beneath trees, but there's more than one way to get ahold of them.

Just how summer shells were a thing back in May, these new seasonal items will only be around for a limited time and they are intended to be used to craft autumnal items.

If you launch the game, Isabelle will welcome you and explain some new additions and gift you a seasonal DIY recipe for a tree's bounty little tree, which is a cute decoration made from cones.

Of course, since it's a new month there are new critters, fish and creatures to catch for your own collection or to donate to Blathers, which you can read here and here.

Without further ado, let's go into detail about all the new seasonal changes now in-game.

How and where to get pine cones and acorns

Pine cones and acorns can be found around your island now, sitting pretty underneath trees.

It might take some tries, but you can also shake the trees on your island to have a chance of them dropping.

We tested on our island and it seems that normal brighter trees will drop acorns while darker pine trees will... well, you know, drop pine cones.

Collecting these items will allow you to craft new items which are all themed around the season of autumn, getting us all ready for the colder weather.

How to get seasonal DIY recipes

With the seasonal shift come new DIY recipes, which will now begin appearing in flying presents that float across your island, messages in a bottle or given to you by your fellow islanders.

Nintendo

You can get your very first autumnal-themed item by logging into the game as of September 1.

Upon doing so, Isabelle will gift you the recipe called tree's bounty little tree, which requires pine cones, acorns and hardwood.

While you're out shaking down trees for all their goodies, just watch out for any wasps you might disturb...
