Five San Franciscans who are intimately involved with the Aids epidemic are the subject of David Weissman's Oscar-tipped documentary.

His genius lies in finding "witnesses" who are simultaneously ordinary and expert, full of facts and insight into an illness that - even for people who lived through the Eighties - now feels a bit vague. Weissman documents the ingenuity, generosity and optimism of a community that fell victim to a horrible disease that, with astonishing speed, turned the world inside out.
