Uncool for cats

For the uninitiated, Garfield is a dog-hating, lasagne-loving orange cat who lives with his doting owner, Jon, in Anytown, USA. Garfield is CGI animated and voiced by Bill Murray.

Jon is played by a real actor, although I use the term loosely: Breckin Meyer gives Garfield's owner the creepy stiffness of a waxwork dummy.

Jon has a girlfriend (Jennifer Love Hewitt). She goes to England. He follows. So does Garfield.

He winds up meeting a cat who looks just like him (voiced by Tim Curry). This being England, there is a wicked toff (played by Billy Connolly).

This is definitely a movie in which it pays to be heard and not seen. You cringe at Connolly, yet feel no ill-will towards Murray.

In fact, his bone-dry drawl is the only thing that keeps a boredom-induced-coma at bay.
