The first DreamWorks cartoon that feels like it could have been made by Pixar smartypantses. It's actually based on characters from Sixties TV series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, yet there's nothing dusty about the first 60 minutes of the script (the ending drags but hey, you can't have everything).

Mr Peabody, voiced by Ty Burrell, is an acclaimed and brainy dog (imagine a focused, drug-free version of Family Guy’s Brian). He’s invented a time machine and is also the proud adoptive parent of a waif called Sherman. When the latter starts school, however, he meets a vicious bully, Penny, and proceeds to bite her. Mr Peabody attempts to smooth things over by inviting Penny’s parents for dinner.

What follows is like Roman Polanski’s Carnage, with a spot of time travel thrown in. I especially liked the Trojan War gags. Look out for the cracker, too, about why kids shouldn't touch themselves... A bold little comedy. Naturally, not everyone will approve.
