Two of the biggest franchises in Hollywood are blasting into outer space together, as it's been announced that Marvel boss Kevin Feige is working on a new Star Wars movie.

The studio head has been the president of Marvel Studios since 2007 and oversaw the success of the MCU. He’s currently working on a new film, which will take the Star Wars franchise forward after the Skywalker Saga comes to an end this December.

Disney chairman Alan Horn announced the news during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, confirming that Feige will work alongside himself and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy on the new project.

“With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy [Kennedy] is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin [Feige] is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together,” Horn said in a statement.

It's also been reported that Feige has approached a major star for a main part in the upcoming film, although further details have yet to be revealed.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in cinemas on December 19.
