They are murdered one by one by Dennis Price to secure what he sees as his rightful title.

Guinness claimed that Hamer "looked and sounded like an endearing but scornful frog". If so he honked superbly with this black comedy, amazingly courageous for its day (1949) in combining bad taste with good comedy.

Guinness, of course, is superb, like many fine actors given the chance to let their hair down.

But so is Price, almost forgotten now but well worth remembering.
