Dunkirk cinema guide: where to watch the war epic in the format it was made in, from Imax to Picturehouse

Christopher Nolan’s Second World War epic, Dunkirk, hits the big screens today — and some giant ones too. The movie was shot on wide-gauge film, double the resolution of standard 35mm films, for an immersive experience. Here’s where you can watch it in the format it was made in.

Nolan filmed three-quarters of Dunkirk using IMAX cameras so see the film in IMAX 70mm 2D. It gives 10 times the image quality, resolution and sound than you get at a conventional cinema.

The Leicester Square cinema will show the film in IMAX with laser projection for amazing colour and greater detail. Its screen is 26m wide, the same size as the IMAX at the BFI.
