Deep End is a highly original slice of London life

10 April 2012

Jerzy Skolimowski, the Polish director of the excellent Essential Killing, made several British films in the Seventies and this slightly misogynist comedy from 1970, set largely around a shabby London swimming pool, has John Moulder-Brown as an attendant who develops an obsession for one of his female colleagues.

The surprise is that the femme fatale is Jane Asher, showing she was a much better actress than many thought.

A highly original slice of London life, beautifully made.
