Now in its fifth year, the BFI London Film Festival Awards ceremony will be held at the Banqueting House on Whitehall on October 19 (by invitation only). There is an Official Competition for the Best Film, the Grierson Award for Best Documentary, the Sutherland Award for Best First Feature and the Best British Newcomer Award which recognises new or breakthrough writing, acting, producing or directing talent

Here's the shortlist for the LFF Best British Newcomer Award

Conner Chapman, a young Yorkshire first-timer who plays Arbor in The Selfish Giant.

Shaun Thomas, a slightly older Yorkshire first-timer who plays Swifty in the same film.

Destiny Ekaragha, director of Gone Too Far!, the story of a London teenager confronted with his long-lost Nigerian brother.

Rob Brown, director of Sixteen, about a former child soldier in the Congo who lives with his adoptive mother in west London.

Jack Fishburn and Muireann Price, producers of Love Me Till Monday, about a 25-year-old who seems bent on destroying her life.

Jonathan Asser, writer of Starred Up, a first-time screenplay that draws on his experience working with violent criminals in Wandsworth jail.
