Priority booking opens today for this year’s BFI London Film Festival. The Evening Standard's critics round up the must-see movies
1/20

This October, the BFI London Film Festival returns for its 60th year.

The full line-up has been released, but there's an awful lot to choose from over the 12 days – in fact, all told, there'll be 193 feature-length pictures, 52 documentaries and 144 short films. Those who don't wish to square their eyes should flick through the gallery above to read our critics' highlights: there's a more managable 20 choices to get stuck into.

Besides pictures with blockbuster credentials, the festival is also celebrating smaller films and filmmakers, including a handful of Eastern European cuts.

This year, film lovers can watch some of what's on by tuning into the dedicated online player.

The 60th BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, runs from October 5-16 at various venues. Booking for BFI members opens today, public booking opens Sept 15 (020 7928 3232; bfi.org.uk/lff) or in person at the box office, BFI Southbank, SE1
