A girl you can really Antitrust

Rachel Leigh Cook10 April 2012

It's weird for me to be in a film about computers because I'm almost never on-line - I find the internet too complicated.

Plus I'm very busy. It's great for getting information, though. If I needed to know where the largest ball of string is, for example, I'd be right on it.

So what attracted me to this role? The fact that there's a twist - that's what I found interesting. And also my character is a little older than I am. And this was a genre I haven't tackled before. I've done mostly drama - people still think of me in She's All That, which was a comedy. So AntiTrust was a departure - I liked playing someone who's at work rather than at school.

We did a lot of research. We went to a big computer company - and also to the graphics department at MGM, the film studio which made AntiTrust - and talked to their designers, and animators, and co-writers. I have to say that was not fun for me at all. I don't identify with people who love computers that much.

But I think it was a good experience - it was really valuable but I'm not going to pretend that it was fun. I just wanted to observe people - their mannerisms and personalities, and the way they relate to each other. I wanted to be able to communicate that.

For me, though, the best part of this film was working with Tim Robbins. He's just a dream, and so giving as an actor and in every respect. But it's scary talking to someone who's that good at what they do. It's humbling. The great thing was that he's not an intimidating person, which was pretty cool because he's definitely one of my top five most-admired people in this profession.
