Underground art in a space-age trip

Commuters are being sent on an inter-planetary ride with a series of galactic art installations and Tube announcements.

Members of the public using Notting Hill Gate and Bethnal Green Underground stations were today being told via the tannoy to “please watch out for meteorites while leaving the station” in the latest commission by the Art on the Underground project. Artist Harold Offeh, 36, left, said: “There is wonderment in disappearing into a ‘black hole’ in the ground and being transported and arriving at a different location.”
