Mayfair's Hard Rock Cafe saw Absolute Radio presenter-turned-cartoonist Andy Bush exhibit his music-inspired 'Celebs at Home' series in a room full of rock star memorabilia this past Monday night, March 20.

The colourful works of art, sold in aid of charity, are Bush’s interpretation of what the biggest names in music get up to when they step out of the public eye. Bush humanises each star by setting them up in mundane, run-of-the-mill situations, like David Bowie taking out the recycling or Billy Idol mowing his lawn.

Bush’s celebrity cartoons emanated from his days on the radio, where he would doodle during the gaps when songs were playing on air.

“I’ll be playing a song on air, and then it will sort of come to life in my head”, Bush told the Standard, “I just kind of sit and wonder if [the musicians] do the same, mundane, run-of-the-mill stuff that we all have to do in day-to-day life.”

Bush said: “I’ll be playing the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I always think that they look like they have lots of parties. If they have lots of parties, do they do that thing that we all do where you sneak your empty bottles into next door’s recycling so the binmen don’t think you’re alcoholics? That’s how the pictures came to be.”

Since the collection of cartoons came to be, Bush’s art has attracted the eye of celebrities like Ed Sheeran, Russell Brand and even Biffy Clyro, all of whom have autographed the cartoons for Bush to sell for charity – in this instance, Teenage Cancer Trust.

“I’ve always been impressed with the Teenage Cancer Trust as a charity”, Bush said, "It’s a difficult time and there are so many things vying for people’s attention, like what charity gets prominence above anyone else. But for me, having a child, it was an easy choice.”
