Boris Johnson outlined more details of the Government’s winter Covid strategy this afternoon.

After pointing out that the current situation is in some ways more challenging than it was last year, with higher case rates, he also emphasised the advantage of high vaccination levels.

The favoured approach will focus on small changes and contingency plans where needed, to try and avoid lockdowns and keep as many businesses open as possible.

Speaking at the Downing Street press conference, Johnson said: “When you’ve got a large proportion, as we have now, with immunity, then smaller changes can make a bigger difference and give us the confidence that we don’t have to go back to the lockdowns of the past.”

“In the meantime, we are confident in the vaccines that have made such a difference to our lives.”
