Fuller, Smith & Turner is gearing up for customers arriving en masse at its London pubs for the Rugby World Cup, the boss of the brewing group said today.

Simon Emeny, chief executive of the firm behind London Pride and Frontier craft lager, said it has a raft of pubs around the rugby strongholds of Twickenham, Chiswick and Richmond.

He expects the group to significantly benefit from serving meals and drinks to rugby fans in September and October.

Emeny said: “We have been planning for two to three years and it is a great opportunity for us.”

Revenue jumped 12% to £321.5 million in the 12 months to 28 March. Pre-tax profit rose 7% to £36.4 million.

Fuller’s snapped up a 51% stake in craft cider and gourmet pizzas business The Stable last year.

It has seven sites and will open in Whitechapel in October. Emeny said the nine weeks to 30 May had got off to a good start.

The shares rose 48p to 1107p.
