Britain’s “best paid banker”, Roger Jenkins, is set to strike it even richer with the flotation of his latest venture, the Brazilian investment bank BTG Pactual, in a listing that will value his stake at nearly $195 million (£122 million).

Huw Jenkins (no relation), the former chief executive of UBS’s global investment banking division, is a fellow employee with a stake of the same size, bringing the value of the two managing partners’ combined holding to nearly $400 million.

Roger Jenkins is best known for jointly brokering a £7 billion life-saving fund-raising at Barclays Bank from Middle Eastern investors at the height of the financial crisis, allowed the UK bank to avoid calling on the taxpayer.

Reputedly Britain’s best paid banker — making upwards of $75 million a year — when he left his role as head of Barclays tax-planning business in 2009, Roger joined BTG last year with the task of raising cash from investors and spotting investment opportunities.

Roger rarely gives interviews, but privately is said to be well connected and to enjoy the good things in life, as his house overlooking Malibu beach attests.

In a demonstration of just how fast the Brazilian economy is growing, the flotation of BTG in Sao Paulo later this month will value the bank at about $15 billion.
